Hill Stations in India

Link the Nilgiris by air

Udhagamandalam: When will the Nilgiris be put on the air map of India?

Earlier, prospective beneficiaries had justified the demand for an air link by stating that an internationally renowned hill station like Udhagamandalam should have such a facility.

Now even the middle class people have joined the chorus. Their contention was that such a facility would do a world of good for tourism and be a life saver during medical emergencies.

While the Mettupalayam-Ooty-Gudalur highway, which has served the Nilgiris for several decades, has of late become increasingly undependable on account of natural calamities, the alternative Mettupalayam-Kotagiri-Ooty highway was under tremendous pressure.

Tourist attraction

The Nilgiris Mountain Railway connecting Mettupalayam and Udhagamandalam was a major tourist attraction but it cannot serve the purpose of foreign and domestic tourists who are not able to spare much time.

Favourite destination for honeymoon:
While freezing wind during mornings and late evenings making it tough for people in north India to stay in open for too long, they honeymooners visiting Manali in Himachal Pradesh are having a truly gala experience here.

With large number of marriages solemnised this season, honeymooners are thronging the scenic snow-clad Manali to enjoy wonderful and everlasting conjugal moments.

This time a record number of newly wed couples have arrived at the hill resort of Manali.

Frozen! Still beautiful, Thats Dal lake!

With cold wave sweeping across the valley and temperature dipping below normal, the world famous Dal Lake here is freezing, though slowly.
The frozen parts of the lake continue to attract large number of tourists and locals as the minimum temperature continues four degrees below the normal of minus two for the month of January.
Children were throwing stones, papers, and breaking the thin ice sheets on peripheries of the lake.
